Caroline Wells Cope is a South Carolina–based artist, accomplished whippet breeder-owner-handler, and avid equestrian whose work is deeply rooted in animals, movement, and craftsmanship. Raised in South Carolina, she now lives on a small hobby farm in Walterboro, where daily life with animals continues to shape both her art and breeding philosophy.
Caroline began showing whippets in 2014 under the mentorship of Kerrie Kuper of Karasar Kennels and quickly established herself as a leading owner-handler. She has since handled seven different AKC National Owner Handler Series Best in Show winners—a breed record. Her whippet GCHS Karasar’s Inferno, “Fern,” was the #1 NOHS Whippet in lifetime points for over two years and earned multiple national honors. As a breeder, Caroline’s focus remains on producing healthy, sound whippets with excellent temperaments, capable of excelling in the ring, performance events, and family homes.
Beyond dogs, Caroline competes in AQHA horse shows in Amateur and Select divisions throughout the Southeast. Her love of horses—and their structure, elegance, and movement—strongly influences her artistic work.
A self-taught artist, Caroline has drawn since childhood and later taught herself graphic design. Her work has been featured in juried exhibitions and pop-up galleries, including Nude Night Tampa and Orlando, and she has received honors from the American Whippet Club Art Exhibition. She is a juried artist-in-residence at the South Carolina Artisan Center.
Today, Caroline works as a freelance graphic designer and commission artist specializing in traditional pen and ink. Her work emphasizes form, movement, and character, reflecting a timeless approach grounded in craftsmanship and emotional presence.
Whether in the show ring, the barn, or the studio, Caroline Wells Cope’s work is unified by a lifelong devotion to animals, artistry, and the pursuit of excellence.
